The Flipbac Camera Grip is a high quality, precision made addition
to your camera. Here we explain the steps and decisions we took to bring our
camera grips to market.
Design and Production:
In order to create camera grips that would meet
photographers’ needs, we first studied popular camera designs and carefully observed
photographers' opinions and views in forums and blogs.
After determining our goals, the next step was designing the 4 camera grips. First, we hand made prototypes to establish the size and basic
shapes of the camera grips. The next step was drawing 2D CAD drawings to give
to 3D modeling technicians to render the 3D drawings. (Note: screen grab from
3D software). After multiple adjustments and fine tuning the end result was
an extremely accurate visualization of the final product. These precise drawings
were then given to the mold maker.
Using state of the art CNC milling machines, the mold
cavities were created. We then did a test production to see if any further
design adjustments were needed. On
completing the mold cavities, the next step was to texturize the surface of the
mold to closely match the surface textures of most cameras. Finally, the
Flipbac logo was milled into the mold.
Materials:
After considering many different kinds of plastics and
rubber, we decided on high grade silicone. We found silicone to be the most
stable, long lasting and best feeling. We also sent out samples to photographers
to get feedback. We all agreed the silicone was excellent and the material to
use. With the mold now complete we did a small test run to check
fit and finish and ensure the black silicone we used matched the blacks most
commonly used on cameras.
Adhesive:
Choosing an adhesive was more difficult than first imagined.
We quickly were drawn to two companies' adhesives – 3M and Sony. Sony interestingly
has developed excellent adhesives that they use in their products and also sell
to other manufacturers. However, after testing these adhesives in a wide range of
temperatures and carefully examining if any residue was left on the cameras, we
decided on a 3M adhesive.

The G4 Grip - OUT OF STOCK (Sorry!)
The Flipbac Camera Grip G4 will fit over the small grip-strip found on popular cameras
such as the Canon S100 and Nikon V1, as well as other cameras
lacking a grip. It features a leather grain texture, made of high grade
silicone and quality 3M adhesive. When
mounted on the camera, the Camera Grip G4 handsomely adds form and function as if a “factory finish”.
